52 Week Leisure Challenge: Week 11 – Drawing & Doodling

Yes… I’m only about 20 weeks behind; it’s fine… Everything is fine…

Several months ago I was asked if I could mock up a design for a wedding favour; as with many other things in the past while, I put it off. I want to say, however, that drawing and doodling require a certain mindset for me. I also need to be in a space where I feel like it’s okay to just sit down and create and not have guilt over not doing something “productive”. Yes, as a Recreation Therapist, I am challenged by this constantly… Could it be why I chose Recreation Therapy as a career? That’s a whole other discussion.

I had some time off recently and decided to do nothing, literally nothing. No expectations on myself; just some downtime. I would have loved to go somewhere, however, #1) I’m not sure I’m ready for that yet #2) limited travel partners #3) Cheap ass. Staycation was where it was at; in my pajamas, nearly every day. Anyways, I finally sat down and worked on a design for said above request and really enjoyed it! I’ve always been a doodler and am fairly decent at copying what I see.

For the past two years, I’ve been following @dailyart_unity on IG and adore the random showcases of various artists’ work. Especially the posts where the creator shares tips and techniques for improved drawing. Today I finally sat down and did a doodle just for myself. I just want to point out, some of these techniques are incredible in instantly improving your work, so be sure to check them out!

I’m wanting to try some of the painting examples that have been shared on the above account, but I’m not feeling nearly as confident. I know, I know; it’s the process, not the product! Share your favourite creative and inspirational social media follows!
